Smiling faces in Heuchelheim: Six young men and women, former students and students of the University of Applied Sciences Central Hesse, can be happy about the Ludwig-Schunk-Prize. It was awarded to them for outstanding academic achievements and honorary commitment. Today, they received the award, which is endowed with 1,000 euros each, at the Schunk Group's headquarters.
This year's prizes went to product manager Gunda Baumann (Tamm), master student Dennis Domladovac (Laubach), software developer Fabian Geisler (Gießen), junior engineer Nicole Liersch (Ratingen), master student Christoph Nils Schäfer (Gießen) and project manager Lena Wolf (Wolfenbüttel). They are already working in industry or are currently completing a master's program at the THM after their bachelor's degree.
Cooperation between Schunk and THM
"The Ludwig-Schunk-Prize is a sign that willingness to perform, excellent degrees and voluntary commitment are compatible and are also rewarded," said Gunthard Sommer, Chairman of the Board of the Ludwig-Schunk Foundation, at the award ceremony. "It also symbolically acknowledges the many successful cooperations between THM and Schunk". The prize is dedicated to the company founder Ludwig Schunk, whose companies have developed into the Schunk Group, an internationally active technology group with over 8,000 employees in 29 countries.
"Setting high standards for yourself"
THM President Prof. Dr. Matthias Willems expressed his respect for the prize winners for their two-fold commitment: "They have committed themselves to their own cause and have achieved an excellent degree in their studies. But you did not forget that you live in a community. This is demonstrated by your voluntary work in the fields of culture, religion, education or public security." According to Willems, this is exactly what the Ludwig Schunk Foundation recognizes. The prize promotes the willingness of junior staff to set high standards for themselves in terms of personal qualification and commitment to society.
The best graduates of the year can apply
The best graduates of their year from the Giessen and Friedberg faculties of THM, which offer study programs in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and management, can apply for the Ludwig Schunk Prize. A jury consisting of representatives of the foundation and members of the university decides on the award. The criteria for the award are the final grades and the amount of volunteer work involved.
